We are delighted to offer you the opportunity to join for us for a special Six Nations 2022 preview dinner with arguably the greatest player of them all, Sir Gareth Edwards CBE. Hosted by popular broadcaster Phil Steele, the dinner in support of Sporting Heritage will be held at the luxurious 4 star Quay Hotel & Spa, Deganwy on Wednesday 2nd February, 2022.
The partnership with Sporting Heritage CIC will see both organisations working together to share their work, projects of interest to their members and audiences, along with helping raise vital funds to help contribute to the ongoing work to promote, share and celebrate sporting heritage.
Founding Director of Sporting Heritage CIC, Justine Reilly said:
“Our whole aim is around helping keep sporting stories alive across the four nations, in our communities, schools, sports groups and museums. We love what The Events Room have done in creating memorable, enjoyable events for members of the public to meet and hear from some of sports greatest names share their amazing memories. This partnership offers a brilliant opportunity for us to share our aims and work with lots more people and is perfect timing as we gear up to celebrate National Sporting Heritage Day this month, on 30th September.”
Sir Gareth was very prominent in the Welsh team of the ’60s and ‘70s – an era where Wales dominated the Five Nations Championship, winning the title seven times, including three grand slams. He is one of a small group of Welsh players (Gerald Davies CBE, JPR Williams MBE, Ryan Jones MBE, Adam Jones, Gethin Jenkins and Alun Wyn Jones) to have won the Grand Slam on three separate occasions.
Edwards also played ten times for the British and Irish Lions, playing for the 1971 Lions team that was the only Lions team to win a series in New Zealand, and for the unbeaten 1974 side in South Africa.
Edwards’ try for the Barbarians against New Zealand in 1973, often referred to as simply ‘that try‘, is regarded as the greatest ever.
The evening will commence at 7.30pm and will include a three-course dinner, charitable raffle and auction.
